+UNO. One. Developed by Klaus Botta in 1986, the UNO is the original one-handed watch. An attempt to reconceive how we perceive time, the elimination of the standard minutes and seconds hand slows everything down. The urgency of an ever-ticking hand is removed, and time is told to the nearest five-minute mark. Yet, it is done so with a clean and precise tool that has a clean and timeless appearance.
The crisp dial in white or black features bold lines accompanied by numerals per hour. Between are a series of marks for the half-hour, quarter-hour, and then five-minutes in descending length. Time is read via a single long hand with a needle point, making an estimation to within 2.5 minutes of the time easy at a glance.
The dial and Swiss-made RONDA 1062 quartz movement are housed within a circular 40mm titanium case. Light and nimble, it features sharp, architectural lines that cleverly keep the wearer’s comfort in mind. Scallops on either side of the bottom of the case allow the wrist to flex naturally. At 7.7mm thick, the UNO rides close to the wrist and will never catch on a cuff.
